We have an excellent opportunity for a Scientific Communications & Outreach Officer to join a communications team at a leading scientific institute in Norwich. The role holder will help to bring the institute’s science programme to life for the public, writing and publishing articles on current activities, and look to forge relationships with the research community, as well as funders and educational organisations.

Scientific Communications & Outreach Officer’s Main Duties:

  • Plan and deliver a regular schedule of science articles to showcase research
  • Build strong relationships with researchers at all levels, to learn about emerging trends and topics
  • Coordinate outreach activity including events, training, and presentations
  • Support delivery of wider communications activity, including newsletters, posters, social media and multimedia
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues on content planning, development and delivery

Scientific Communications & Outreach Officer’s Qualifications:

  • Degree in relevant life science subject
  • PhD related to genetics, bioinformatics, or molecular biology (desirable)

Scientific Communications & Outreach Officer’s Experience:

  • Extensive knowledge of life sciences, particularly genetics, bioinformatics or molecular biology
  • Ability to assimilate complex information and communicate key messages to non-scientific colleagues
  • Ability to lead projects and coordinate activity
  • Demonstrable skills and experience in scientific storytelling in written form
  • Familiarity with content publishing platforms (desirable)
  • Familiarity with web analytics and social media curation tools (desirable)
  • Willingness to travel, nationally and internationally and to work outside of normal office hours
  • Interest in science and society and different methods of communication
