We specialise in the recruitment of high quality candidates in the Maintenance sector. We have an excellent opportunity for a Caretaker / Premises Manager at a primary school based in Welwyn Garden City. The role will be responsible for security, related Health & Safety, maintenance and cleaning.

Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:00 am - 6:30 pm (37 hrs/week on a split shift basis)

Will need to be available to open and close the school and will be working on a Temp to Perm basis.

Caretaker / Premises Manager’s Core Duties

  • Ensuring the security of school buildings, site and resources
  • Act as a key holder, providing out of hours and emergency access to the school site
  • Arrange for general maintenance of heating, lighting and plumbing
  • Responsible for regular health and safety checks of buildings, grounds, fixtures and fittings, (including compliance with fire safety regulations) and equipment
  • Responsible for regular maintenance checks and follow-up actions
  • Responsible for contractors whilst on site and ensure work is completed to standard
  • Purchase premises related equipment and supplies within agreed budget
  • Responsible for the regular checking and operation of heating, cooling, lighting and security
  • Arrange tenders and quotes and manage the appointment of external contractors
  • Supervise and manage other premises staff (eg. Cleaners)
  • Undertake risk assessments, ensure compliance with all health and safety requirements, such as COSHH, ladder, asbestos, legionella and asset register
  • Liaise with other school staff/departments on premises issues
  • Lead H&S induction training for all new staff
  • Responsible for the coordination of lettings and maximise bookings
  • Monitor utility usage and tacking action to reduce expenditure where appropriate
  • Act as H&S Officer and complete termly H&S checklist inspections
  • Report H&S matters to SLT and Governors

Caretaker / Premises Manager’s Skills required

  • NVQ level 2 (or equivalent), not essential
  • Minor DIY repairs and maintenance
  • Awareness of Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH)
  • Working knowledge of Health and Safety at Work
  • Working knowledge of policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of legionella and asbestos testing, would be desirable
  • Manual Handling
